Jakarta to Denpasar in Business Class (but after a first class leg from LHR)
So reader we parted with me sat in the Garuda Business class lounge after being bumped forward onto an earlier flight due to the delays on legs in and out of Denpasar. As I said earlier, this was all expertly handled by the first class ground handling staff, even to the point of showing me pictures of my luggage being loaded onto the correct aircraft. A few words about the Garuda business lounge at Jakarta. It was large and well equipped with a variety of Indonesian food and drinks but no alcohol. Table service was provided and all was complimentary. WiFi was complimentary and of a decent speed. All in all it was an average business class lounge with no overtly special features or qualities to be honest.
So at the appropriate time I was collected from the lounge and walked to the gate and as with the previous leg, the ground handling staff showed my boarding card to the gate staff for me! I was then escorted to my seat and introduced to the cabin crew once more. This was despite the fact that this was a business class seat (there was no first class on this flight). I can only assume that this service was continued as I had a first class return so was entitled to the extra service.
The short flight to Denpasar passed quickly and the food was adequate at the business class level. Again the service was attentive without being oppressive despite the different class of flying. The seating was of an average standard for its class, although one thing that was noticed was that, probably due to the short leg, the inflight entertainment didn’t seem to work. I made the mistake of asking for milk in my tea and was presented with the most anaemic cup of tea I have seen in a long time but in the overall scheme of things that is trivial.
A major surprise was the fact that I was meet by yet more first class ground handling staff on arrival at Denpasar, who walked me to a customer lounge where I waited for my bags to arrive and be collected for me by the Garuda staff. Once they had collected my bags they loaded them onto a trolley and then walked me to my waiting transport.
All in all the customer service provided by Garuda was exceptional and they followed it through all the way to placing me and my bags into my transport at Denpasar. The only negatives I can say are the rather average lounge, no inflight entertainment on the short leg and a dubious cup of tea! Customer service seems to be the core of Garudas business model at all levels and is rather refreshing to see these days. Would I travel Garuda again, the answer is yes.
